Who Broke into my Dream? was commissioned by percussionist Teresa Flores. It was premiered at her senior percussion recital at USC March 31, 2001. The piece features a traditional tango section in the middle, centered between two statements of the primary theme, which are also inspired by the tango. While the accordion plays the main theme twice, and the marimba plays the accompanying ostinato, the percussionist playing congas and bongos is given the most developed musical material. The title was inspired by a line from the poet Federico Garcia Lorca.
