Piano Quartet
Writing Piano Quartet was like writing a thunderous percussion piece for strings and piano. The atonal harmonic structure is absolutely secondary to the percussive quality of every note played. While the piece was composed predominantly as an experiment in extreme dynamic contrast and rhythmic activity, the melodic contour of the first two beats provided motivic material for the entire composition.
