I'm just curious, as a long time fan of BSG, I've been in love with your rendition of All Along the Watchtower, I was wondering what kind of guitar you used when it was recorded? I tried googling it but haven't had any luck lol. Its such a mystical unearthly beautiful sound!

Hi, welcome to the forum.

It's indeed a good place to get info on music by Bear, but you could also try reading his blog.
Bear has loads of info about his music there as well.

His process on creating the music from the Season 3 finale episode (including Al Along the Watchtower) can be found here.

Hope you find what you are looking for there...

You know, I don't think I ever blogged about this exact detail. There were a ton of guitars on that recording. The acoustics you hear in the beginning are a Portugese Guitar and a South American Quatro, if I remember correctly. None of the acoustics were a standard steel or nylon string, that's for sure.

The electrics were a combination of various makes of guitars, and baritone guitars. And everything except the baris were tuned down to C#.

Hope that helps! :)

i think my favourite scene would have to be exodus from new caprica, the entire thing, its all one constant scene of a brilliant space battle, great live-action ground combat, all beautifully rendered by your suspenseful and tense music bear, especially when the pegasus went slammin, when i saw lee abandon she ship i was like "nah hes just going to fix the guns", when i saw the raptor leave i was like "ok so theyre sending some rescue raptors, when i saw pegasus was on fire i was like "lee really?" then when i saw its direction i was like "GE%YWEGSE%WG%$GW" WHAT ARE YOU DOING LEE! poor peggy never got her lifes worth, but the music sure suited her death with bag pipes at the end wasnt it? really fitted the theme of battlestar perfectly, the whole tribal and tense drum beat, mixed with the emotion at the end.. perfection

LOL, your description just brought it all right back to me.
Really great scene indeed.

Still, the 'Kara Remembers' scene does the trick for me. Musically maybe the most 'present' scene. Even for non-score lovers it's a scene where they HAVE to notice the music.

I still get goosebumps whenever I watch that scene in "Someone to Watch Over Me".

My actual favourite is the track running in Blood & Chrome part 1 when Adama sees Galactica for the first time.

I have to agree that ending scene in Season 1 was amazing looking back at it. There's just no way you could've seen it coming. I watched BSG on Netflix a year and a half ago for the first time so after the episode I could just go to Season 2. I can't imagine watching it live and knowing you have to wait months ti find out! :D

But Storming New Caprica... the Adama Maneveur was just amazing too.

My favourite track would have to be Scar, I love the power and energy that it has and when it plays in the episode as Scar is revealed to be waiting for the viper pilots, gives the Raider an ominous, scary presence. He may also be one of my favourite characters from the show. ;)
