Bear McCreary: Human Target BSG The Cape SOCOM 4 Terminator: TSCC
James Newton Howard: King Kong The Last Airbender (The movie may suck but trust me, the score is amazing!) Salt Blood Diamond Defiance

There’s no way I can rise up to your challenge, so I’ll change the rules. ☺
Here’s my list list of most under appreciated scores by composer:
Alan Silverstri: Clan of the Cave Bear David Newman: Hoffa and Phantom Hans Zimmer: Drop Zone, Green Card, and Point of No Return (great use of mid-90’s synths). Also, Regarding Henry (perfect rainy day music). Henry Mancini: Lifeforce (not what you expect to hear when you see Mancini’s name) James Newton Howard: Unbreakable John Barry: The Black Hole (great use of a Theremin) Lisa Gerard and Pieter Bourke: The Insider Trevor Jones: The Dark Crystal Jerry Goldsmith: The Ghost and the Darkness and Masada (big score for a early 80’s TV mini-series) Michael Stearns: Chronos (awesome 80’s IMAX score featuring “The Beam”) Nick Glennie-Smith: We Were Soldiers Danny Elfman: Dolores Claiborne and Night Breed Patrick Doyle: Indochine and Needful Things Stewart Copeland: The Equalizer and Other Cliffhangers (I loved that show back in the day) Vangelis: The Bounty

Farewell, Joel Goldsmith. Son of Jerry Goldsmith and "Stargate"-composer. You won't be forgotten. He died of cancer on April 29, 2012, aged 54, at his home in Hidden Hills, California.

RIP Joel Goldsmith. A tragedy, but he left us all with great music.

Bear, always wondered how well you knew Joel and his work, since you both worked in the same genre and medium. It was a great loss, and I always thought his electronics and chamber work on Stargate: Universe was very unique.

I love Joel Goldsmith's scores for The Ark of Truth, Continuum and the re-done version of Children of the Gods (even though some of the edits in that were stupid and they made some bits make 0 sense and made other stuff seem really out of character) but for those he seems to have been allowed to do a bit more of his own thing with them and possibly had a bigger budget. I found his scores for SG1 and Universe to be rather lacking (Universe in particular left me with feelings of "Do not want").
I think my problem with the scores for SG-1 was that it wasn't thematic enough for me (Yes, there were themes but they were mostly just re-hashing David Arnold's score for the movie - which is a fantastic score but there's only so many times you can year the same re-use of the Goa'uld ostinato before you get sick of it). He had a handful of themes (His Asgard theme in particular is brilliant. The G minor - C major chord movement works brilliantly with that simple melody) and his music for the Ori was more using a style as opposed to a single theme (but that wasn't until the show jumped ship to Sci-Fi/SyFy). And even on Atlantis, where he seems to have written more (in terms of quantity) original music there were pretty much just 2 themes, and I think he could have taken it much further.
Admittedly, I do love his scores for The Ark of Truth/Continuum and the re-cut Children of the Gods (even though I have issues with the cut). They seem to have let him do his own thing a it more with them and you can hear the relationship to the David Arnold score but you can also hear more of his own style coming through. I wish they'd have let him have a bit more freedom (and possibly some more budget) with the music on the series 'cause he could have come up with a fantastic score that was lyrical and thematic and still retained the scope and grandeur of the movie score.
