I'm glad you noticed my homage to Brad Fiedel's scores. I really wanted audiences to feel that our series was connected to the Cameron films.

My first contact was the Soundtrack for BSG Mini-Series, cause I love soundtracks. From the first moment, i was fascinated about this new style for Sci-Fi-Music. Not so classical, this was a complete different thing. Really, really interesting! On March 2009, I had the chance to hear the music from BSG live in Hagen, Germany (and also meet Bear). Wow, that was really cool!  Till now, I have the scores from BSG Mini-Series, Season 1-4, Razor/The Plan, Solo Piano and of course TSCC.

That was a deliberate artistic decision by Eick and Moore. They wanted BSG to not have the traditional John Williams/Wagnerian/heavy brass sound that became so commonplace in sci-fi.

AdamCarlo is right. But, credit is also due to director Michael Rymer who spearheaded the move towards Japanese percussion.

I first heard one of Bear's scores on BSG. As someone from a music family who went to Music school for a few semesters, still sings, etc the score is always something I notice on shows/movies. Actually, what truly sold me was the title theme. I got into BSG around season 2 later in the game, but before the DVD's for season 1 came out. So, well, I was watching the not so legal versions to catch up. Many of which were made from UK sources. I fell in love with that theme. So much so that when I saw US re-runs I was actually jarred by the fact that it was different. >.< Then it got used for the rest of the series and I was a happy little music dork. For me that theme make me first feel for the tragedy of you know, 12 worlds esploding, and then get me hyped for what was to come in that ep. All in what? 45 seconds? I'd bet that's not easy to do from a composing standpoint. The other thing that sold me and made me go "ok, find the CD for these" was Bear's use of motifs. Last but not least, the fact that he was always using some 'weird ass' instrument. I'd hear something and go, "What the hell was that? It's awesome!" I'll stop rambling, I'll never stop otherwise. ~Paula

Hey Paula... yeah, I certainly had plenty of chances for weird instruments. That was one of the best parts about doing "BSG," getting to learn all about them and how to write for them.

For me it all started with bsg, the miniseries got me into the series, and then as soon as series 1 was finished i was craving more, so i went online did some research (about 5 seconds ) and then i found some youtube videos, and from then on i continued to listen, i have bought the soundtracks, and i was gutted when it ended, the series maybe over, but the music continues to leave a lasting legacy.
