Hey everyone,
Earlier today I was thinking about some of my favorite songs from the different seasons of the Battlestar Galactica soundtracks. So I thought about starting a thread about our favorite BSG songs. The idea here, list 10 to 15 of your all-time favorite BSG songs from mini-series to season 4..and in no particular order..BUT..if there is a certain order, let it be known.
And something else, this might even give Bear some insight on a new " BSG Greatest Hits " cd or something.
in no special order:..and I have more favorites (of course), but these are just a few.
Bulldog Escapes Ionian Nebulae Battle Prelude To War Dreilide Thrace Sonata No. 1 The Signal The Cult of Baltar Mandala In The Clouds Gaeta's Lament The Line Kara's Coordinates Heeding The Call A Distant Sadness Fight Night Precipice Violence and Variations
Bulldog escapes ( this wasn't on any of the cd's but I really LOVE the music from that epsiode, especially the part where Bulldog is being chased by the Cylons.)
Ionian nebulae Battle (where season 4 starts and the cylons figure out that the Final Five are in the Colonial Fleet.

Its funny you guys would start a thread like this, because I was just thinking about this myself the other day while I was stuck in traffic. I was thinking about how my favorite BSG tracks list is a little different from fans' lists. This is not to say I disagree with you guys at all, but the pieces that mean the most to me personally are the ones that had a profound impact on me creatively and personally.
There are some cues in "BSG" that forever changed (in subtle or even grand ways) how I approach my art and my job. After writing these cues, I would take the lessons learned and apply them to everything I did forever onward. These pieces are always my personal favorites, because I touch back on them so frequently.
Off the top of my head, and in no particular order, those cues would include the following:
-). Diaspora Oratorio -). Among the Ruins -). Dreilide Thrace Sonata No. 1 -). The Olympic Carrier -). The Shape of Things to Come / Passacaglia -). Storming New Caprica
Surprisingly, I've found that many of those cues, especially the first 4, don't pop up a lot on fans' favorites. 'Among the Ruins' in particular is not especially flashy or catchy, but it was a huge challenge and pushed me creatively into new territory. And "Oratorio" is still probably my most successful composition ever, if I had to pick just one.
Of course, I'm picking these based on my own experiences writing them, not necessarily based on what the end product resulted in. In a weird way, you guys have a much less biased than I do, a fresher perspective.
Interesting to think about...

And therefore I can't listen to Diaspora Oratoria and not hear your catharsis in creating that piece after struggling with it for so long. For me my selection of favorite BSG tracks (in no particular order) would include: - Prelude to War - The Shape of Things to Come - Passacaglia - Apocalypse - Martial Law - Admiral and Commander - A Distant Sadness - Kara Remembers - Diaspora Oratoria - Violence and Variations - Kara's Coordinates - Blood on the Scales - Elegy

By the way, for YEARS my favorite sci-fi romantic duo theme was "Han Solo and the Princess" from The Empire Strikes Back but that was replaced by "Roslin and Adama".

(10 picks presented alphabetically)
Deathbed and Maelstrom Gaeta's Lament The Line Mandala in the Clouds Pegasus Precipice Roslin and Adama Someone to Trust Something Dark is Coming Wander my Friends Watchtower
***
If I had another 5 it would be Baltar's Dream, Diaspora Oratorio, Dirty Hands, Lords of Kobol, Temple of Five
***
By way of commentary, I'm a bit surprised at the 'Prelude to War' showing in this thread; I liked it in context (it's actually where I started watching the series) but I never listen to it by itself. I'm also surprised anyone managed not to mention 'Watchtower' as I would call it the signiature piece of the show. Obviously not originally written for the show, but I think there's enough original creative work in the BSG version that I feel justified in including it.

I'm partial to the piano so I just absolutely love tracks like Battlestar Sonatica, One Year Later and Kara Remembers.
