Bear,

I think I asked you this a long time ago (in your blog) before the forum came around and I'm wondering what your thoughts would be on this. And..I myself have NO idea how you could integrate the instrument into something with Walking Dead but who knows..I'm sure you could find a way.

Have you thought about some music with a didgeridoo ?

This video is of some guy in San Francisco playing and he looks pretty good to me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSmmTveNPSM

Also, I myself have some wind chimes that sound beautiful and very peaceful. They're not the cheap ones either. These are hand tuned and I'm not even sure if the company is in business anymore. They're from J.W. Standard. I'll have to make a small video and post it here so you can hear them. Trust me when I say they're awesome !!

When they were available they were not cheap !!..and I think that is why the company went out of business. I think people were satisfied with paying just a few dollars for something cheap and crappy sounding vs shelling out a few more dollars for something with some quality to it.

I just did a search on ebay for those windchimes and there are only 4 listings..I actually thought there would be more than that.

Anyway, just a thought.

Forget it, Marc. Bear still has to work the kazoo me and some friends gave him in Ubeda into the Walking Dead. ;)

I saw this thread, and I have to ask...

Does Bear know of, or know how to play the Armonica (Glass Harmonica, Crystalophone, Bowl Organ)? I saw a documentry featuring the instrument about a decade ago & I was quite intrigued. Apparently it's popularity died out over conjecture that it drove the musicians who played the instrument, as well as their listeners, stark raving mad. Ever since I heard that I've been dying to hear a live performence.

Here's a clip I found on Youtube.

Doesn't this seem like something that would offer a creepy vibe for The Walking Dead or something similar?

Interesting instrument. Never heard of that one.

Made me think for a second you were talking about a glass harp.
Now that's an instrument that looks like hell to tune ;-).
And I guess you need quite an amount of training to play at the tempo this guy gets to at around 1:23...

Of course, the mechanics of both are pretty much the same. I'd never seen it either, though. Interesting idea.

Oh wow...that was amazing. I wonder if there are any "All Glass" Orchestras out there. Time to google it I suppose.

Hey All...

Ok, so the didgeridoo... I did actually use it once already, on Eureka. I didn't end up quite with the sound I wanted, but you can hear it on the soundtrack album in a couple spots.

As for the glass harmonica, I've always loved the sound and to be honest, I'd never one played before. Thanks for sending that YouTube clip. It's a fantastic sound. Ironically, it sounds like a pipe organ played very high in a really big room, those floating gentle sine waves.

I must admit, it's a cool instrument, but one of those ones where you'd have to wonder if you could get something just as effective if not more so with a synthesizer. It's such a synthetic sound. Just a thought.
