Sweet! Consider it BOUGHT!

Finally, this is great news. I’ll buy it soon hopefully.

Bear – I have been looking forward to this release since you first mentioned it.

I have a question regarding Sarah’s Theme. There have been quite a few variations on this theme used in the series, and it is a great theme. Your track listing points to her theme from the pilot.

Season 2’s second episode, “Automatic for the People” had a moment at the end where I turned up the volume quite a bit. As the heroes look at the wall of blood words, the scene fades to Sarah in the shower.

During this scene, you have the strings carrying Sarah’s theme – the highs have the melody and the lows have a haunting, moving bass line. This pairing moves with powerful drums underneath it. In my mind, that IS Sarah Connor. A caring, loving mother (high strings) trying to keep fate from turning nightmare (low strings) with her grit, determination, and strength (drums). Very nicely done.

I am fairly certain this particular rendition of her theme has been used elsewhere in the series, but my question is if it is included in this soundtrack either part of Sarah Connor’s Theme or another one of the tracks. I was happy they let the music do the acting in that particular scene.

Same here. My daughter is going to go nuts! She’s been checking iTunes for “Sampson and Delilah,” but the full CD is WAY better. Thanks, Bear.

Had this on pre-order from Amazon for a while. Very exciting. Can’t wait to get my hands on more stuff!

Great news! Can I ask you how much of these autographed copies will be available? Is it 100, 200? It’s always nice to know if you’ve got something very rare in your collection. :)

Anyway, congratulations on the release! I’m looking forward to it.

Such good news!
Amazon though still list the release date as December 16th. Hope that’s a mistake!
And yeah, I really have read it here first, Amazon hasn’t listed the tracks yet ;)

SO SAY WE ALL!

(oh, wrong TV show)

YESSSSSSSSSSSS! sign me up for atleast 2 copies

CkRtech… Your question is about “Sarah’s Theme.” The particular scene you’re talking about from “Automatic for the People” was a really good moment for it. And it actually didn’t make the cut for this album because there were many other superior versions (in my opinion).

The definitive version was written for the pilot, but in fact that theme is re-arranged and reappears in a ton of tracks, including “Perfect Strangers,” “There’s a Storm Coming” and “Central America.” So, you’ll get lots of it on this disc. The specific version from “Automatic for the People” you mentioned will probably end up on a future CD release.

Rian…

I usually autograph between 100 and 200 CDs for La La Land’s first release. We also might organize a CD signing in LA for mid-December. But, basically, there are never more than 200 signed copies floating around.

Sandra…

I noticed the date on Amazon too. I’ll bet they’re just slow to getting the news. I put the blog entry up within hours of La La Land getting the green light to go to the manufacturer, so I’m certain Amazon hadn’t heard yet. Hopefully it’ll change soon.

-Bear

Great news! Just placed my order. By the way what do you think of the new GNR cd?

Do La La Land Records ship to the UK cos I’d quite like a signed version?

neowardog, they do! I’m always having them ship CD’s to Belgium. You pay around 7 dollars for transport on top of the listed CD price, so that’s quite doable. Just be sure the total price of your order (shipping not included) doesn’t exceed a specific amount, or you could get charged for some extra custom fees.

very awesome Bear, cant wait to have a listen.

Sweet! Forget a holiday gift… it’s my birthday that day. Yay!

IrishCal24…

I haven’t heard the new GnR yet, because I didn’t want my first listening experience to be on MySpace. I’ll check it out this weekend.

Rian…

Thanks for clarifying about the international shipping, I wasn’t sure.

Mickymse…

Happy B’day!

Bear-

I know you get this question all the time, but any idea when the BSG Season 4 Soundtrack will be released? I know since we are close to 4.5’s premiere it probably won’t be till after the series finale, but I didn’t know, especially in light of the fact that we have another movie coming after the series wraps.

Happy thanksgiving! :-)

Awesome! If it weren’t for having ordered computer parts recently, I’d be ordering soon. Gotta watch the budget. Looks like a decent selection and with more on the way later… It will be mine, but I’m gonna have to wait a bit.

And the new GNR is prtty good, so long as you go into it with an open mind and don’t expect Appetite For More Destruction or Use Your Illusion III.

Thanks Rian

musicpaladin2007…

“any idea when the BSG Season 4 Soundtrack will be released?”

No idea. At this point, I’ve still got to score the finale, so I’m not yet ready to think about it. In an ideal world, it would be out this spring, but I think Summer 2009 is the absolute earliest to look for it. I usually spend 4 – 6 weeks in the studio tweaking and perfecting the “BG” soundtrack CDs and Season 4 will be no exception. I won’t rush to release it because I want it to be as good as the others.

Once I’m done scoring the finale I’ll probably take a day or two off and then set out and start prepping the album. I’d say check out the “Sarah Connor” album for a while until BG4 comes out. And of course keep an eye out here on the blog for updates throughout the winter.

Revelation 23…

I’ve listened to the new GnR a few times now. I’m really trying to love it. But, it’s difficult. I don’t dislike any tracks, but there’s very little that’s as memorable as even the most forgettable tunes from UYI1&2 (songs like Shotgun Blues or 14 Years). Better is undeniably the best song. Sorry has some great moments and the last minute of Prostitute is relatively restrained and beautiful. But, in general the simple bombast of the GnR of the 80s and 90s has been replaced by… well, by EVERYTHING. The songs rarely settle in to a single idea for more than 20 or 30 seconds without being interrupted by hyper-produced magic tricks.

Still, I’ve got nothing but praise for Axl’s voice. He hasn’t lost a thing. With any luck, he’ll apply it to catchier melodies and lyrics on the next album… and hopefully that one won’t take another 17 years.

-Bear

I’m not overly fond of all the songs on Chinese Democracy, but I think it’s more good than bad. The only place where Axl’s voice sounds like it’s failing in in Madagascar, while his vocals in Sorry are might be his best. Sure, it’s not “old” GNR, but I think he’s surrounded himself by a talented bunch and the album doesn’t treat the members that aren’t currently in the band as guest and/or session musicians. And I’m probably in the minority, but I don’t mind it being under the GNR banner instead of the Axl Rose Band or whatever.

Supposedly, there were four albums’ worth of material to sort through and this one is supposed to be the first in a trilogy, the third coming in 2012. We’ll see.

But back to topic. Sort of.

Are any of the live shows available, or will they be, either on CD, DVD or both?

And is there anything special planned (musically, that is) for the BSG finale? Any ideas yet?

Revelation 23…

“Are any of the live shows available, or will they be, either on CD, DVD or both?”

No. We got decent audio and video from the concerts but nothing good enough to release in any way, aside from the couple clips that were online for a while. However, the next round of concerts I’m planning will be a different story…

“And is there anything special planned (musically, that is) for the BSG finale? Any ideas yet?”

A few. I think I’ve got some ideas that will make all the BG fans smile. :)

-Bear

I can’t wait for the Sarah Connor soundtrack! I’ve been waiting a long time for it…

Not to change the subject… but! I noticed that TVshowsondvd.com* is reporting that there is a segment on the BSG 4.0 dvd’s called “The Music of Battlestar Galactica.” Have any idea what that segment will include???

* http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Battlestar-Galactica-Season-4.0/10659

MJL356…

I think I know what that is. More details a little closer to the release date. :)

-Bear

“I think I know what that is. More details a little closer to the release date. :)”

Lets hope it contains Bear running around with a camera asking the actors what they think about the show’s composer and his music!

“You don’t look musical at all.. Do you.”

hehehe

Oh please, oh please oh PLEASE let it be what I think it is (The Music of BG)!!!

Your *next* round of concerts?! Dare we dream you’ll bring it (it=awesome musicians and instruments and your bad self) back to Seattle? I hope the EMP took our comments to heart and books you for like…20 shows. What would be cooler than playing the Sky Church? Nothing. That’s what would be cooler than playing the sky church. :D

Amazon is now saying that the release date is December 16th.

Is this true?

adamczar…

I’m not sure really. I think La La will start taking pre-orders on Dec. 2, but I doubt they’ll actually ship then. The 16th is the probably the actual release date. I’ll see if I can find out and confirm.

hydroxyl.jill…

I haven’t communicated with the EMP yet, but I am very hopeful that we’ll get to play Seattle one way or another. It will likely be 2010, however.

-Bear

Is there any news on the shows in Europe? (I believe you were looking at the UK or Germany?)

Bear-

I just saw something very interesting (and coincidental) which I plan on picking up when I order your Terminator CD.

http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=300

I know you have mentioned you have an appreciation for Shirley Walker’s Batman work (as do I!) and it seems the same label that releases your albums is also releasing her work from the series, which is very exciting for me. Coincidentally it seems to be taking orders & shipping on the same dates that you have mentioned here for your album.

musicpaladin2007…

That La La Land release of Batman: TAS soundtrack is going to get a lot of play on my iPod for the next few months. It’s such a shame that Shirley isn’t around to see her work get the release it always deserved.

-Bear

Thomas…

Actually, a Germany show looks like a possibility! I’ll put up the details soon, because they’re still coming together.

-Bear

“It’s such a shame that Shirley isn’t around to see her work get the release it always deserved.”

So say we both.

A bit of Googling yielded this:

http://spaceaboveandbeyond.tv/merch-music.html

Top of the page: I don’t know if it was a general release, or (probably) something more limited. Several other releases cited there have the main theme, but it’s really the in-episode work I’d want. Especially the cue from Lt. Vansen’s “Autumn” monologue (from the episode, “Hostile Visit,” if I recall correctly).

- M. \”/

Whenever I had a free moment at work today I’d click the refresh button on Lalarecords.com so I could pre-order my autographed copy. Because of that offer I cancelled my Amazon pre-order. How cool is the internet for letting fans have a direct pipeline to stuff like that. Was glad it finally showed up, I was beginning to worry. I hope it’s first come first serve for the autographed ones :)

Ordered at La La earlier today, been hoping to have the music from TSCC since early in the first season. It’s great to see it become available now.

Bear, I’m not sure if you described this already and I missed it somewhere. Approximately how much time do they give you to finish the music for an episode? The schedule for all aspects of the show must be pretty tight. Are you viewing a fully completed, contiguous episode as you score the scenes?

Thanks.

Photog33

“Approximately how much time do they give you to finish the music for an episode? ”

I’m not sure if I’ve already answered this or not either. It changes wildly from show to show, from episode to episode. T:SCC has always been really tight, but this season has been particularly rough. In general I get between 10 and 14 days between getting a close-to-finished picture and having to deliver final mixed recordings. I rarely wait until the episode is 100% finished to start writing, because it would leave me no time to do it right.

For a more detailed answer to your question, skim some of the BG episode entries on this blog. I go into a lot of detail about the schedule and the process.

-Bear

Can’t wait for my copy to arrive, Bear. I think the music you’ve composed for the show more than lives up to what Brad did on the first two Terminator films.

I’m interested to know, though, if the piece from the end of “The Demon Hand”, where Sarah talks to John is on the cd. As I remember, there was some nice renditions of both Sarah and John’s themes there.

Keep up all the wonderful work you’re doing on Terminator and I hope to see future releases of the score in the future.

Matt

Wow, it looks like the autographed copies of T:SCC sold out in a single day. Damn!

Matt…

Yes, that piece from “Demon Hand” is on there. It’s called “Perfect Creatures.” It’s actually one of my favorite cues from whole show, and you’ll see I saved it for the end of the record for that very reason.

“Wow, it looks like the autographed copies of T:SCC sold out in a single day. Damn!”

Congrats Bear!

I hope your hand doesn’t cramp up when you sit down to sign them all!

The sample mp3 files on the La La Land page sound great. Really looking forward to it.

“The sample mp3 files on the La La Land page”

Dang. Even just a minute’s sample of “Sarah’s Theme” goes right to my 4th chakra… Triste.

I am SO looking forward to the day this arrives in my snailbox.

[...] Imported once again from our awesome composer Bear McCreary… [...]

Fantastic! Now, I think I know what I will be getting for Christmas! Yay!

Wait, I’m getting conflicting release dates. La La Land records says the 16th, but Amazon all of a sudden lists the 23rd as the release date. Please explain? :)

I am happy to say I received my TSCC CD today from Lalaland Records! I ordered on 12/6, too late for the autographed copies. :( BUT, it is in time to give to my 13-yr-old son for Christmas. So…I haven’t listened to the whole CD yet, but probably will by the end of 12/25!

We’re eager to help promote your TERMINATOR: The Sarah Connor Connor Chronicles soundtrack! It’s great stuff that any fan can recognize. Thank you for your work and we look forward to your future works, the inspiring melodies and the realms you help to create with your music.

Bear…
I was so much looking forward to the December 16th release date and I have run to the Virgin Megastore at Times Square New York, hoping they still have a copy left for me on this day. I was so disappointed when they told me that their copies haven’t arrived yet and the computer status says they’re still ‘on order’. However I have bought all your other soundtracks ;) Do you know if the 23rd is the final release date now. Hopefully it does not get postponed again. That would be too much for me to take ;)
Cheers,
Sandra

Sandra…

I’m addressing your question in the next entry…

-Bear

Truth is I haven’t bought a CD in over 5 years. And listening to this score I totally love it and will support you 100%. Like Sandra said it’s no where in NY, hoping bestbuy, circuit city or anyone will carry it soon. I am definitely buying this CD.

Bear, I just received my copy of your CD. It is fantastic. This is great music to have playing as I write. Thanks.

@ Damian: “it’s no where in NY, hoping bestbuy, circuit city or anyone will carry it soon.”

Don’t know about CCity; Best Buy doesn’t stock it on the racks (they never carry anything I want), but you can special-order it through them. You’ll need either a credit card, or you’ll have to buy a gift card for enough to cover the CD and shipping. If you go the latter route, save yourself some trouble and get yourself a gift card for $18 – $20 before you even talk to a blueshirt about ordering it (that’s what I did this time, except I got the card for a bit more than that).

If you have a credit card, you might as well order it directly from La La Land.

- M. \”/

@ M.
I ordered the CD from La La Land on December 23rd, but they have not sent it yet, meaning that they will probably send it after the Christmas holidays or even after New Year. I am slowly but surely going crazy… I want this CD. Now!
Anyway wishing everybody happy holidays :)
Sandra

I got mine on Dec 24th from Bestbuy.com, was busy with the holidays and got sick on christmas day and was unable to give a feedback. The CD is extremely great and I am loving it so much, just one track threw me for a loop but I still give this cd a 9.5/10. Which reminds me to goto amazon and give a rating.

La La Land Records still haven’t sent the CD. I know it’s the holiday season, but anyway there are some working days in between and I’ve ordered on the 23rd. The order is still “pending review”… ;( I might delete the order there and place a new order with Amazon tomorrow if they still haven’t shipped). It is jinxed, that’s my guess…

Bestbuy has it in stock and does quick shipping, that is where I got mine from and im in NY as you. Either way Amazon i guess have them, I love amazon and all but I am going on stores that I know have them, call up Bestbuy or Amazon and check their inventory.

Bear, you are a god! :D

Happy holidays,

Hi Damian,
the problem is that I’m not in NY anymore (I was there for a shopping spree) and I’m back home in Switzerland. I tell you… NO STORE in Switzerland has this CD on stock and that makes me crazy. Plus La La Land Records have still not sent it ;(
Sandra

Hey Sandra. Sorry you’ve had such a hard time tracking it down. I’m sure La La Land will send it soon. Happy new year & travel safe.

:)

-Bear

I just got a chance to listen to the Terminator: SCC soundtrack and i must say I very much enjoy being able to identify it is Bear’s music, and at the same time, it is so rightfully different than what you do for Battlestar or Eureka. You have a masterful ability to have your own unique style as well as give each project its own unique sound within that. Just over a week till BSG starts up again, and i’m looking forward to what that brings (and a little good new music from your end, too?)

Okay…so I’m a wee bit slow on the draw, but not without good reason, and have just acquired and listened to TSCC disc. Once again, Bear, you continue to reset the height of the bar for what constitutes quality where a soundtrack is concerned. I went to five different CD shops to find it, but the journey was more than worth it.

Quick question: what was the name of that Johnny Cash tune that was used for the wipe-out of Ellison’s team?

Are there any plans to publish this on iTunes or the Amazon music store?

Today I have finally received the T:SCC soundtrack from La La Lands Records and I’m just listening to the first track. Awesome piece :)
Thank you Bear for making my day(s) with your beautiful music!

I finally bought this soundtrack and love it. I was wondering about the Season 2 soundtrack. Is it being worked on for release? Also will the song that was sung between John Henry and Savanna be on the soundtrack? I loved it, what a neat song and especially sung between a robot and a little girl. Anyway that’s all for now, hoping this is renewed for another season.

Well, it was a merry christmas present for me today to open a package and find the scores for both ‘T:TSCC’ and ‘Caprica’ in there. I have all the scores for BSG, and am obviously a huge fan of Bear, but I had held off buying these because I haven’t yet watched the actual shows. But I wanted them badly nevertheless! Thankfully, my brother spared me the indecision and just bought them for me. As I write this, I am listening to the stirring track “There’a a Storm Coming”. Gods, am I glad I have these scores now! I will one day watch ‘T:TSCC’ to see all the action that Bear has written this amazing music to, and as for ‘Caprica’, I would really like to hold off on watching the movie until the actual 1st season gets a release; but when I listen to the score later today, that attempt at being disciplined may become a short-lived pipedream in a matter of seconds! LOL.
Merry Christmas Bear and to all here on the blog!!

Brian… “Quick question: what was the name of that Johnny Cash tune that was used for the wipe-out of Ellison’s team?”

The Man Comes Around

haveblue… “Are there any plans to publish this on iTunes or the Amazon music store?”

I’m still working with WB trying to make this happen. Its still totally in their court. If they want to make it happen, they can. So, fan support for the idea really helps.
