Oct. 15th Event at EMP in Seattle!

Posted by Bear McCreary on October 3rd, 2008

I’m excited to announce that on October 15th I’ll be featured at the EMP SFM series Exposed: Inside Film.  This is a new film series that looks at new films, cult favorites and classic sci fi and music films followed by an interview with people who worked on them.  It will take place at the stunning Experience Music Project / Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame in Seattle, Washington.

Exposed: Inside Film

An Evening with Composer Bear McCreary

During my interview, we will present clips from Battlestar Galactica, Eureka, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Wrong Turn 2, and some snippets of the Music of Battlestar Galactica documentary that premiered at my BG concerts in April.

And I’ll also show bits of my concert and student film work I did in college.  I can hear the beginning seeds of my Galactica score in these older projects and it will be fun to share them with the crowd.

If you’re in the Seattle area, it would be great to finally meet some of you who’ve been reading and commenting on this blog for so long!  I hope you can make it out to the event.

So Say We All!

Tickets: bought. I can’t wait! I’ve been to a few Warren Report events, and they’re always fascinating. Although he didn’t quite know what to do with Amy Sedaris…. :)

Seattle… a long walk from here (sai…) – oh well. I’ll be emailing that URL to a couple of people I know in the Seattle area who might be interested – maybe more interested than they now realize.

Hmm, not really in the neighbourhood for me. I’m interested though. Is it going to be recorded (audio/video) or are transcripts put online of the interview?

Tickets await at the will call !! Anything to do with BSG was a big reason I bought my son and I a membership at the EMP.

I’m still hoping for some kind of final episode party, and am emailing with the EMP some ideas.

can’t wait!

Hey, nice “shout out” (OGRE) in last night’s (10/06/08) ep of T:TSCC.

Thomas: There should be a podcast-on iTunes, search for “Warren Etheredge” or “The Warren Report,” and see what you can find. Info should be up on the Warren Report website too.

I can’t wait! We’ll be happy to have you in Seattle – it’s gratifying to know that the hot tickets come to us sometimes, instead of always being in LA. And I’m very much looking forward to seeing any snippets from this elusive “Music of Battlestar Galactica” documentary I’ve been hearing about since April! Thanks for making it up here and for making me feel very lucky.

Bear
We need to talk the EMP into getting you and the band up here for a show or two !!!

Tickets are in hand. I look forward to potentially shaking the hand that has crafted the best soundtrack scores ever. Thanks for coming to SeaTown, Bear.

Bear
will there be time for photos and autographs like the Roxy event?

So glad some of you are able to make it out. See you there! Oh, and Dave…

I don’t know if there’s an official autograph time, but I imagine it will be pretty low-key. I’m sure you guys can catch up with me after the event for autographs.

Now Bear, if you EVER make it up to the Midwest, say Chicago or Indy…I’ll personally DRIVE there…since I live in Angeli’s hometown it’s hard to make it to the left coast for these events!

But I’d definitely be down for a couple hundred mile drive just to see one of my favorite composers live….

back from: “An Evening with Composer Bear McCreary” at the Seattle EMP.

An inside look, and boy it didn’t disappoint!

More of a retrospec on Bear’s career: where he came from, where he’s been.

Interjected with clips of his work and questions from those that attended.

From student made films, to his feature length movie work, to his television work.

Its funny because the very first (“Battlestar teaser”) clip they showed was Prelude to War, and after the clip Bear mentions that he still gets emotional after he sees these, and while he is talking about this I’m wiping away the tears !!! Every BSG clip got to me.

He was able to show the last part of the “Bear McCreary documentary” that was shown at the Roxy shows. Only the last part where we find Bear at the house of James Callis! great stuff

Time didn’t allow to look at all the clips (Eureka, SCC, BSG, BSG cast interviews) which was a bummer, as I would have stayed to watch them all!

A quick greeting after the show, an autograph on the pictures of the Sunday show at the Roxy where my son and I are dead center right against the stage, and a quick photo op! (thanks so much Bear!)

Not sure if other venues do presentations such as this, but if you can find something thats remotely close, I would suggest going !!!!!

I’m going to try real hard to see if I can get Bear and his crew up to play the EMP sky church! Thats my next mission!

I’d like to take a moment to concur with CFPrez. It was an entirely brilliant evening. At 2hrs45min – I was thingking for five bucks, an hour was probably what we’d get – so much ground was covered that when the audience Q&A came up at the end, all my questions had been answered.

I’d really love to camp out in the JBL theater for a week and watch the entirety of BSG; it was just so very much better on the big screen.

CFPrez…if you require any assist with getting the band here to play, drop a note here and let me know. I’ll check back every now and again.

Huge, ginormous thank you, Bear. You are a gift to this world – so say we all.

Have to agree with the other posts that last nights discussion was a great event. I really enjoyed the inside stories about production times and the adversity Bear had to face when composing the score for “33″. Hopefully, we can get him back to the EMP|SFM for a concert when he has the time (I got $5 towards Taiko drum rentals!). And for you fellow BSG fans, please know that you have a voice in the SFM pushing for more BSG events and to keep a look out for 2009. Thanks for a great discussion Bear, and best of luck with the final 10 and more.

Hey guys…

Thanks for the kind words about the event last night! I had an incredible time, and I must admit, I was stunned by the turnout. It never fails to amaze me when BG fans turn out in such numbers and ask such interesting, insightful questions. It was also great to meet a few of you who’ve been writing in to this blog for a while!

I’ve got a few pictures from the event that I’ll post a little later on. Also, Warren Etheredge (the incredible host who I have to thank for this opportunity) has a video which maybe we can get online at some point.

As for me, I’m leaving Seattle today. Such a bummer. But, it’s time to go back to LA and actually get back to writing!

Finally got some pictures from the EMP event.

And the view from my hotel room. Damn, I love Seattle! I wish I could have just stayed up there…
What a view!
